Arcine Studio presents a comprehensive medical campus that seamlessly integrates an L-shaped healthcare centre, a mid-rise commercial office building, and a structured parking tower within a unified site plan calibrated to the scale and urban grain of Chicago’s expanding medical corridor. The design encompasses a columned hospital façade with a distinguished porte-cochère entry, a curtain-wall office block articulated by vertical fin elements, and a landscaped arrival sequence anchored by mature tree planting and a circular drive court. PROJECT CONCEPT
Arcine Studio embarks on a visionary healthcare campus development that orchestrates three distinct programmatic volumes across an expansive multi-lot site, arranging an L-shaped medical centre, a commercial office building, and a multi-level parking structure around a shared landscape of surface parking courts, flowering tree groves, and pedestrian pathways, cultivating a cohesive institutional precinct nestled within the established neighbourhood fabric of Chicago’s south side.
The medical centre anchors the campus with a bold, symmetrical composition of two wings joined at a pronounced central atrium clad in warm-toned panelling, whose double-height glazed portal frames the primary ambulance and patient drop-off zone beneath a generous porte cochère, while the flanking wings present a disciplined rhythm of full-height vertical window bays separated by deep piers that lend the elevation both civic gravitas and effective solar control across the long east-west exposure.
Across the campus, our design positions the commercial office building as a sleek counterpoint to the medical centre’s masonry-inflected language, presenting a mid-rise curtain-wall volume whose expansive glazed façade is modulated by a series of warm-toned vertical fins that introduce scale, rhythm, and a degree of solar mediation, while the elevated ground floor supported on pilotis creates a shaded pedestrian colonnade that connects the building to the broader campus circulation network.
In addition to the resolved architectural programme, this comprehensive campus integrates a multi-level parking tower linked to the medical centre by an enclosed pedestrian bridge, ensuring seamless covered passage between vehicle and clinical destination, while the surrounding landscape of cherry blossom alleys, structured planting beds, and clearly delineated vehicular circuits establishes a legible, welcoming arrival experience that balances operational efficiency with the restorative qualities essential to a healing environment.
